About Us
We are a small family run business located in the rural sector of the Bellarine Peninsula, Australia and keep a few horses we like to compete. Our ‘future strappers’ are 2 boys aged 6 and 5 to load and push the wheelbarrow and a girl aged 3 to do the trimming and plaiting (there’s no harm in dreaming…..).
Being a horseowner/rider since a child, my initial interest in horseshoes began several years ago when I moved up from my fabulous crossbred galloway, who was sadly retired due to injury, to a much larger Irish draught cross (that I share with my husband if he’s lucky). The I.D.X , being a much heavier horse, needed shoes that offered more support. The ‘flats’ that he was shod in gave him the required support, as the steel section was wide, but offered no grip. When I lunged him on a dewy morning or after rain he would slip and slide all over the place. I would always hope for the best when jumping in slippery conditions.
Friends with draught crosses who wanted grip were shoeing their horses in a lighter concave section at the expense of offering support. Unfortunately a fair proportion of their horses have now been retired due to problems such as ringbone or navicular disease.
I wanted to do the right thing by my horse but also wanted to feel safe and secure when riding on greasy ground. Hence the quest to find the perfect shoe for my horse began.
In the U.K., home of the crossbred horse and pedantic horse owner, I discovered Cottam Horseshoes and the perfect shoe for my horse. I imported a few sets for myself. My friends were so impressed with the quality and choices available they ended up buying them too and then wanted tools......
Currently most sales are over the Internet and all purchasers have been thrilled with their products. We are aware that there are plenty of cheap products on the market but they are far from the quality of products we supply.
